All the Japanese tries were unbelievable rugby but Fukuoka’s second is one of the best pieces of individual skill you’ll see on a pitch. To grab it out of the air like that and still have the pace is just sensational. Try of the tournament

I am Italian and Japan have improved more over the last 5 years than Italy over the last 20 plus having the chance to play the best teams in the world every year. Something to reflect over regarding management and structural plans for the future of the Italian rugby.

Everyone going on about Fukuoka and Matsushima, when Lafaele single-handedly set up 3 of Japans tries

“Sooo underrated”

I watched Matsushima’s game closely as he took the ball. Curiously, he always seems to have a smile. In addition to his undeniable talent, this guy really enjoys playing even in the most intense moments of the game. It’s a gift.

Lafaele is from Samoa, but thanks for being given a chance at a Japanese university and playing in Japan. I am very proud of him fighting for Japan as a Japanese. I thank him, his family and the people of Samoa.

I’m English and, even though I watched this amazing game live, I’ve got tears running down my cheeks watching these incredible highlights- and that cheer from the crowd when they kicked the ball out to end the match was a truly beautiful sound to hear!
Go Brave Blossoms!

As a Scot I’m hurting after that game but at the same time so happy for Japan. What a game they play. Hope they go on to win it.

What a fantastic performance! Japan thoroughly outclassed and outplayed Scotland in every department. The emotion and exuberance from the crowd was amazing to see!

Just a day after the Typhoon, the Brave Blossoms delivered a world-class performance we will remember for a long time! 🇯🇵🏉🏉🏉🏉

The quarter-final is not the end of the match for Japan. There is still work to be done; with heart and courage. Congratulations to the team of Japan who is constantly improving.
In France, we watched with great pleasure the excellence of the game that you have offered and you will continue to offer. That’s a true rugby.

Fantastic to see some proper running rugby instead of the domination of the power game in modern rugby.
Japan has every right to be proud of their team, and I’m sure they are.
As good as Japan were, Scotland’s defence was at times very poor.

“Rugby” is really amazing. There is no such great sport. Respect each other, recognize each other and play the best match. You can see it in any game. First of all
Respect. Respect your partner to the fullest. Not only rugby but also the most precious thing as a human being. You can prove that rugby is the most amazing sport.

As a New Zealander and a All Blacks fan, I’m blown away! Japan played an exceptional game here! Props to Japan and good luck for the remainder of the RWC!

The Japanese rugby has grown on a history of humiliation. I am grateful for the efforts of our predecessors. And I pay my respect to the Samurai who are fighting for Japan, including Michael Leitch.

As a Scot, this was a really good game to watch. Disappointed to lose, but we shouldn’t have performed so poorly against Ireland and given ourselves a mountain to climb. I would argue Japan have been in Tier 1 for a while, they just haven’t been given the games to prove it.

Japan’s improvement isn’t necessarily Scotland’s loss (in the big picture) but the world’s gain. They were fantastic in this tournament and a real credit to themselves and Jamie Joseph. It’s a shame they couldn’t get started against SA, but to lose to the eventual champions is a slight salve.

How inspirational for the people of Japan in the face of the devastation of the typhoon.

Fantastic game. I listened to this live on the radio while at work, 11:45 pm New Zealand. Watched the highlights about five times, love those tries and support play.

Japan has its own customs and practices.
Nevertheless, it’s great that foreign players have overcome it and achieved great success.
I just respect all of them.
